I know there are a lot of versions of The Little Red Hen. The first page in our printable has a goose, pig, and cat on it. If your book had different characters you could not use this page or you could explain to your child that the same story can be retold in different ways. You could even read several different versions of the story together to compare we read 2 versions.
If your child can write on their own, have them write the name of the character in the picture on the line. Shrink the copies so they will all fit at the top of your chart paper. Glue the copies to the top of the chart and use the markers to make the lines for a graph.
Show the students the actual books and have a discussion comparing and contrasting the stories. Have the students write their names under their favorite Little Red Hen story and review the results in large group. Post the chart on the wall for future reference.

Use a black sharpie or gel pen to draw the eyes, nose and mouth of the papercraft animals hen, cat, dog and mouse.
Trace the windmill, seeds, wheat crops, and flour sack and bread patterns on the papers selected for these items. Cut out the traced patterns nicely.
Attach the patterns of each item to complete the crafts. Stick the animal papercrafts on the popsicle sticks; stick the windmill on a popsicle stick as well.
You can keep the rest of the items free and place them on the hen puppet while telling the story.
